The L.01 Houses seek to reflect
the city way of life through spatial design.
The creation of an ‘opaque module’ and
its position in space becomes an organiser
and definer of the living space.
In this way, transparency and luminosity
are absorbed, allowing a dialogue between
the useful interior space and the exterior space.

Given their location in a transition zone between the Penha mountain and Guimarães city centre, the L.01 HOUSES are intended to capture the fusion of the city life in a context of total harmony with nature.

In this way, they are thought of as houses for city living, which accompany the frenzy of today’s lifestyle, but which, due to the peacefulness of the location, seek to soften this agitation. Being a city house, it’s important to think about the essential spaces for everyday life, thus making it as spatial as possible.

The position of the modular piece, its torsion in relation to the ‘empty’ space and its choice of material – oak wood – were particularly studied in order to allow for the creation of different dynamics and spaces. The most private functional programmes are located in this closed module, making it a functional element that organises the space.

In opposite, the ‘empty’ space, the negative, is intended to be fluid, wide, where there is a total apprehension of transparency through spatial diagonality, which can be felt at various moments.

Interior and exterior spatiality has emerged as a principle of intervention in an era in which we are seeking greater rationalisation and spatial optimisation.

The L.01 HOUSES are urban, simple and practical. They result from the search for a simple architectural design, where the interior gesture becomes an identity and defines the space.
