The nursery of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vizela arises naturally on the ground, on a stable platform, and is inserted into it like a terrace. The architectural volume therefore rises in continuity with the surrounding space, without entering into ruptures or conflicts, either with the natural surroundings or with the built surroundings, finding its space without intruding on that of the other centres of the Campus.

The goal was to establish a continuous dialogue between the nursery and its users, eliminating architectural and spatial barriers, enhancing the relationship and fluidity between all the spaces. The nursery was born from the concept of a box, an enclosure that protects and mediates the interior programme with the exterior spaces, valuing a spatial experience that complements both moments. This relationship allows the creation of a game of full and empty, deconsolidating the architectural piece. The natural and fluid organics that are intended in the experience of the different moments that make up the nursery are also evident in the design of the façade and floor plan.

The curved line appears as a reference to children, their dynamics and consequent restlessness in relation to the world around them, questioning it. The curved line and the circumference appear as elements of balance, equilibrium, which contrast with the rigidity of the ‘box’ itself, introducing a spatial dynamic that allows the building to acquire a unique lightness.
