Respecting the assumptions inherent to the ‘box house’ concept, having analysed the circumstances, we were faced with a series of considerations when thinking about the project. Although the surrounding area had a relatively consolidated urban context, characterised by the existence of single-family homes and small commercial units nearby, the plot in question was strongly conditioned by its proximity to arteries with high levels of car traffic on its ‘border’.

The solution found was to create a townhouse ‘’complex‘’ in order to make the most of the longitudinal occupation of the site, to achieve the greatest possible distance from the bypass and to provide the courtyard with an interesting area that would allow for an outdoor seating area.

The ‘’expression‘’ of the complex seeks to take advantage of this proximity to the ‘’automobile‘’ element, presenting itself in some way as a ‘’mechanical‘’ body. This is achieved by using ‘industrial’ materials and textures in its coating, such as glass and aluminium as the main design elements of the facade. The dark palette of these materials reinforces the ‘industrial’ character of the whole, while at the same time promoting greater durability and cleaning of the elevation in the face of the aggressive pollution and dirt to which it is exposed.

The ‘box’ is meant to be lived in, enjoyed, used as a whole, like a machine, the ‘living machine’.
